Police beat man already shot in chest

Kelsey Golden says the suspect who allegedly shoplifted from a Walmart in Raleigh Wednesday evening, is her father, 42-year-old George Golden.
She said doctors at The MED, where her father remains in critical condition, told her father is partially brain dead due to lack of oxygen.
Kelsey identified her father through cellphone video obtained by FOX13 News which appears to show an officer using possible excessive force on her father, after he was shot.
“Yes ma’am, that’s my father,” she said.
Police have yet to publicly identify the shoplifting suspect.
Kelsey said her father was shot in the chest.
She blames the officers involved who didn’t quickly rush him to the hospital.
His only daughter wants answers into possible police misconduct.
“Suspended without pay simply because I’m sure … that’s not something you’re supposed to do,” she said. “If he was already shot, why would you do that?”
Bystander cellphone video captured in the parking lot of the Walmart in Raleigh appears to show an officer stomp, then kick a man on the ground twice.
The suspect can be heard pleading for his life.
“I don’t want to die,” the male voice cried out.
Police say the shooting happened after a Walmart shoplifting suspect resisted arrest multiple times and fought with officers.
They say the suspect then reached into his waistband as if he was concealing a weapon. Moments later the officer shot the man.
“Looking at it from this it appears to be inappropriate,” said Police Director Toney Armstrong, who viewed the video for the first time Thursday afternoon.
“But again, it had to be some action before it. Without seeing the complete video, I don’t want to make an assumption.”
“According to officers, he reached into his waistband, made overt movement toward them and one of them used their service weapon to shoot him,” the police director said.
Kelsey Golden is asking for the police department to apologize to her father, who she describes as a stand up guy.
“He’s not a threat to the community or anything,” she said.
While he faces criminal charges, George Golden appeared on FOX13 News in 2007 to promote a Save Us Ministry’s citywide prayer call to help combat drugs and crime.
“As parents, it’s our responsibility, our duty, to see that our children do not stumble,” Golden said in 2007 on FOX13 News.
“It’s our duty to give love, hope, and let them know the values of life so our children won’t continue to stray away and go to the streets.”
Kelsey Golden said her father has been in and out of work.
After police officers placed her father in custody, the found several DVDs in his pants and jacket.
The DVDs had a value of $215 the affidavit said.
“He not a bad person,” Kelsey said of her father. “He might do whatever he was doing, but he’s not a bad person at all.”
According to an affidavit, Golden faces theft of property of $500 or less, evading arrest, resisting official detention, and assault. Court records show George Golden has been found guilty of similar charges in the past.
