SWAT team kills 107 year old man in Arkansas

PINE BLUFF, AR -- A 107-year-old man was killed on Saturday after exchanging gunfire with S.W.A.T officers, according to reports.

Monroe Isadore died in a home on the 1400 block of W. 16th Street.

Around 4:25 p.m., Pine Bluff police officers responded to a disturbance that an aggravated assault had occurred against two people at the residence on W. 16th.

They said Isadore had pointed a gun at them.

The police had the victims leave the residence and then proceeded to approach the door of the room where Isadore was supposed to be.

Isadore shot through the door after officers announced themselves, but no one was hit.  Officers retreated and called in additional help.

Once supervisors arrived, they began negotiating with Isadore.
S.W.A.T (Special Weapons and Tactics) was also called, and negotiations continued as officials waited for them to arrive.

Once S.W.A.T was on the scene, a camera was sent into the room and confirmed Isadore was armed with a handgun.

After unsuccessful negotiations, S.W.A.T then pumped gas into the room, hoping Isadore would surrender peacefully.

At that point, Isadore began firing rounds at the S.W.A.T officers who had inserted the gas from outside a bedroom window.

A S.W.A.T entry team breeched the door to the bedroom and threw in a distraction device.

Isadore shot at the entry team, and the entry team subsequently engaged Isadore, killing him.

Law enforcement officials are investigating the incident.

It's unclear what distraction device was used. No more information was immediately available. CNN called the police department, but could not reach anyone.

In 2010, there were about 53,000 people over age 100 in the United States, according to the latest Census numbers. Only 8% of them were older than 104.
